NEW YORK–It may be April 1, but numerous grassroots organizations across the country say they aren’t fooling in urging renters and homeowners to not pay their rent or mortgage payments beginning today and lasting until the coronavirus pandemic is over.

WASHINGTON—Following enactment of the Phase 3 coronavirus relief package, which includes a new Small Business Administration (SBA) paycheck protection program, NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger urged Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to “expeditiously” publish guidance related to this program and ensure that all federally-insured credit unions are able to act as lenders under it.

WASHINGTON—The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC), the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and the Maryland and DC Credit Union Association have all sent letters to the leaders of the House and Senate asking for a temporary removal of the member business lending cap on credit unions.
