800 Miles Of Walking Later, Maine Tour To End Hunger Comes To An End

BREWER, Maine–The 14th Annual Maine CU’s Ending Hunger Walking Tour has come to an end after more than 800 miles of walking by Brenda Davis and stops at 93 different credit unions in 87 Maine communities.

This year’s walk concluded at Brewer FCU here. Each year, the walk officially finishes at a Bangor-area credit union and receives broad TV coverage. Davis, who has done the walk each of those 14 years, began her journey on Oct. 23 at Maine State Credit Union. Davis is the founding director of BBC Opportunity Center—an Old Town, Maine-based hunger and homeless resource agency.

To mark the 14th year, a $1,400 check was presented to the Credit Union Campaign for Ending Hunger. The walk is expected to raise approximately $30,000, and the Maine league is projecting that an amount similar to the $552,000 raised in 2014 for ending hunger will be raised this year.

Davis has already indicated that she plans to do the walk again in 2016.

Since 1990, the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised over $5.9 million to help end hunger in Maine.
