A Fountain of Money—Literally

MARIETTA, Ga.—LGE Community Credit Union recently promoted its High Rate Checking Account by decorating a local fountain with dollar bills—and letting passersby take them.

The $990-million CU draped the dollars on the perimeter of the fountain in Glover Park on the Marietta Square during an art event. Within two hours, most of the 300 dollar bills had been removed by the park visitors.

People who pulled off the dollars found a note on the other side that read, “You don’t have to wish for more money. Just visit the LGE booth.”

Upon visiting the LGE booth, visitors received $15 when they opened a High Rate Checking Account.

“Our checking account pays up to 15 times more than most banks and we wanted to promote it in a unique way,” Andrea Shorr, director of marketing for the credit union, told the Marietta Daily Journal.

The account pays 1.5% APY when members meet certain criteria, such as swiping their debit or credit card at least 15 times a month.

“This kind of promotion packs a double punch,” says Julie Burmeister, president of The Burmeister Group, the advertising agency that came up with the idea. “It’s very memorable to the people who attended the event, but video from the event will also continue to generate awareness via social media.”
