ACU Expands Political Push, Backs McAdams In Key Utah Race

WASHINGTON— America’s Credit Unions Monday announced its latest independent expenditure campaign supporting congressional candidate Ben McAdams (D, UT, District 1).

Together with previous campaigns for Rep. Young Kim (R-CA, District 40) and Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA, District 36), who face primary voters Tuesday June 2, the investments reinforce the Association’s commitment to electing proven credit union champions to the 120th Congress, ACU said.

The campaign this week supporting McAdams features direct mail, digital video and radio advertisements, and a dedicated campaign website. McAdams is seeking to represent a district that is home to one of the most concentrated populations of credit unions in the nation, making the race especially significant for the credit union movement, ACU said.

“Credit unions need leaders in Congress who understand the vital role they play in strengthening local communities, expanding financial opportunity, and serving millions of Americans,” said Scott Simpson, president and CEO of America’s Credit Unions. “Working in close partnership with California’s Credit Unions and the Utah Credit Union Association, we are proud to support candidates who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to the credit union movement. Young Kim, Brad Sherman, and Ben McAdams understand the value credit unions bring to consumers and local economies, and they have proven to be strong advocates for policies that help credit unions thrive. As we look ahead to the 120th Congress, electing leaders who support credit unions and their members has never been more important.”

Amid a "challenging" political landscape marked by a "historic" number of open seats and competitive races nationwide, America’s Credit Unions said it is making a record-breaking political investment through America’s Credit Unions PAC and the National Advocacy Fund (NAF). Significant resources are being deployed to support Kim, Sherman, and McAdams through strategic voter outreach efforts designed to engage credit union members and voters in key districts and help elect proven champions of the credit union movement.

In support of Kim in tomorrow’s California primary election, America’s Credit Unions PAC ran a robust independent expenditure campaign that included digital advertising and direct mail outreach. The organization’s early and substantial investment helped elevate Kim’s record of service and support for policies that benefit credit unions and their members.

For Sherman, also on the ballot in tomorrow’s primary, the NAF partnered with California’s Credit Unions to deliver a comprehensive voter engagement campaign, including digital advertising, direct mail, and get-out-the-vote communications targeted to credit union members throughout the district. These coordinated efforts highlighted Sherman’s longstanding support for credit unions and his commitment to protecting consumers’ access to affordable financial services, ACU noted.

“Our political investments this cycle reflect the high stakes facing credit unions and the importance of electing leaders who understand our movement,” said Trey Hawkins, head of political affairs for America’s Credit Unions. “With a record number of competitive races, we are engaging early and strategically to support candidates like Ben McAdams, whose commitment to community-focused leadership aligns with credit unions’ mission of serving members and strengthening local economies.”
