BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Derrick Ragland has been named CEO of APCO Employees Credit Union here. Ragland will take over his new role Jan. 1, succeeding Merrill Mann, who will retire Dec. 31.
Ragland has worked at the $2.6-billion APCO for more than 33 years. He began his career in the loan department and currently serves as vice president and chief operating officer.
"I am honored and very grateful to our board for this opportunity,” said Ragland in a statement. “APCO has made a tremendous impact on my life. In fact, I used one of the first APCO Visa cards to finance my college degree. But my story is not unique; there are many similar stories within our 72,000 members. APCO is not only one of the best credit unions in the state, it is a trusted friend to our members and we are proud to help them reach their personal and financial goals.”
Ragland becomes the fourth CEO in APCO’s 63-year history. The credit union serves employees and family members of Alabama Power Company, Southern Company Services, and other select employee groups.
