African-American CU Coalition Kicks Off Annual Meeting

PHILADELPHIA–The African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) has begun holding its 17th annual conference here this week.

Among the events on the agenda will be the presentation of the Pete Crear Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Hale, the executive vice president and chief strategy officer responsible for cards, collections and fraud mitigation at Arizona Federal Credit Union.

“A veteran and a Bronze Star recipient from the U.S. Army, Hale has been devoted to the credit union movement since 1975. Hale’s leadership skills and hard work lead to the legal formation of the African-American Credit Union Coalition in 1999,” the AACUC said.

Hale also served as the president and CEO of Andrews Federal Credit Union for over 12 years. Highlighting some of Mr. Hales previous accomplishments include being the founding chairman of the board of directors of AACUC, service on the National Federation of Community Development Credit Union's capitalization program committee, NAFCU’s regulatory affairs committee, and the Arizona Credit Union League board of directors. He was also a member of the Filene Research Institute council, board member of the Credit Union Executives Society and vice chairman for the board of directors of PSCU Financial Services.
