TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates’ decision to launch a national search for its next CEO is not expected to signal an immediate change for President Samantha Beeler, who told CUToday.info she remains committed to her current role and expressed confidence in the organization’s existing leadership model.
“I remain deeply committed to serving as president of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates and to advocating for our members and team,” Beeler said in a statement to CUToday.info. “While our organization has operated without a CEO for the past two years, following a leadership structure that previously included both presidents alongside a CEO, I am confident in the strength of our current model, with Steve Willis continuing to lead LEVERAGE. I am excited for the next chapter of our organization and the opportunities ahead.”
The comment answers a key question left open after the Tallahassee-based league announced Wednesday that its board had approved a national CEO search, but did not address how reestablishing the CEO role might affect Beeler’s position. In announcing the move, Board Chair Richard Skaggs said “reestablishing this leadership role” reflects the board’s focus on long-term success and enterprise-wide strategic direction.
The league said the decision follows governance changes made over the past two years and that it has retained Sterling|Martin to lead the search. The organization has operated without a CEO since restructuring its leadership model, with Beeler serving as president of the trade group and Willis continuing to lead LEVERAGE, its business-services arm.
