WASHINGTON—This week is “America Saves Week,” which is aimed at urging consumers to build their personal financial strength through budgeting, good credit, and savings.
The week is coordinated by the groups America Saves and the American Savings Education Council, and made its debut in 2007. Credit unions are urged to use the AmericaSaves.org website to provide different direction to members for each day of this week, including:
- Monday, Feb. 23: Assess Your Savings.
- Tuesday, Feb. 24: Pay Off High-Interest Debt
- Wednesday, Feb. 25: Family and Youth Savings.
- Thursday, Feb. 26: Save Automatically.
- Friday, Feb. 27: Save for Retirement.
- Saturday, Feb. 28: Save for Emergencies.
Digital and social media tools are available from the organizations, which noted that research has found that only one-third of Americans feel prepared for their long-term financial future.
