Arrest Made After Thieves Steal ATM

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities here have arrested one man and are looking for another after the two allegedly ripped a Founders FCU ATM from its moorings and stole in.

The arrest came after Chester County sheriff's deputies searched a wooded area near I-77 for 13 hours. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was also involved as it provided a helicopter that was used in the search.

Police said the two men tore out the machine around 4 a.m., in the process leaving gaping holes in the wall, dangling light fixtures, and scraps of metal and plastic in the drive-thru lanes. Deputies who responded to the scene became involved in a chase of the two suspects, who crashed their vehicle and then attempted to escape on foot. The truck that was used in the robbery was impounded, with the ATM still located in the bed of the pick-up.

Credit union officials said the GPS unit inside the machine was used to track its location and that no cash was removed.
