CFPB Deletes 2,200 Webpages As Trump Administration Pushes Agency Overhaul

WASHINGTON—The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has removed at least 2,200 webpages from its website, eliminating years of agency materials that included press releases, consumer advisories, congressional testimony, speeches and blog posts dating back to the bureau’s creation in 2010, according to reporting by The Guardian.

Consumer advocates said the move reflects a broader effort by the Trump Administration to reshape the agency’s mission and public record. Tom Feltner, associate director of consumer policy at Americans for Financial Reform and a former CFPB policy adviser, told The Guardian the removals appear intended to replace the CFPB’s historical narrative with one portraying the agency as an obstacle to innovation rather than a consumer protection watchdog.

The website changes come amid a series of actions aimed at significantly reducing the CFPB’s role. Since being appointed acting director in February 2025, White House budget director Russell Vought has halted much of the agency’s work, dropped numerous enforcement actions and sought major staffing reductions. Court filings show CFPB leadership plans to reduce the Bureau’s workforce from 1,174 employees to 556.

Adam Rust, director of financial services at the Consumer Federation of America, told The Guardian the deletion of the website content is part of a broader effort to weaken an agency that has played a significant role in consumer financial protection. Bloomberg first reported the webpage removals.
