ONTARIO, Calif.—After online voting had to be suspended due to a widespread Denial of Service (DDos) attack that affected multiple sites, CU Direct has awarded Hurley Children’s Hospital and Primary Children’s Hospital $20,000 each as winners of a a contest it staged to mark its 20th anniversary.
CU Direct had announced its “20 for 20” campaign in early December and allowed people to vote from Dec. 2 through Dec. 22 on the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital that would receive a $20,000 donation. But soon after launch CU Direct upped the amount to $40,000, and now says it will divide that amount between the Flint, Mich.-based Hurley Children’s Hospital and the Salt Lake City-based Primary Children’s Hospital.
“CU Direct would like to congratulate both hospitals on their tremendous support and participation in the campaign," said CU Direct CEO Tony Boutelle.
After the winners were announced Dr. Alan Klein, a pediatric dentist at Hurley, said he would donate an additional $20,000 to Hurley Children’s Hospital. Klein donated the money on behalf of the Sheppy Dog Fund, to which he is an advisor.
The donations will be awarded in January of 2015.
