NEW YORK–Several lawsuits filed by credit unions here against Uber have been consolidated under one judge.
The suits were filed by a number of credit unions that make taxi medallion loans and allege that Uber is illegal in New York City, where taxis are supposed to have exclusive rights to what are known as “street hails.” The City of New York had been pressing for the consolidation of the lawsuits, according to the new York Business Journal. The Journal reported that one of the plaintiff CUs, Melrose CU, had earlier sent a letter to the media claiming Mayor Bill de Blasio was “wasting taxpayer resources on a misguided attempt to shop around the city for a friendly' judge.”
