WASHINGTON –– Credit Union Miracle Day, the title sponsor group of a family of races, will be presenting a $505,000 donation to its charity of choice, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) on April 3, the same date its hosts two popular races on the east and west coasts - the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and the Credit Union SacTown Run.
Of that amount, over $77,000 has been raised to date from runners, their families and friends. Since credit unions became the title sponsors in 2002, more than $7.5 million has been donated to CMNHs nationwide.
More than 200 members of Congress have signed on to be honorary race chairs of the events representing 45 states, American Samoa, D.C. and Guam.
The 44th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run will take place Sunday, April 3, starting at 7:30 a.m. on the Washington Monument Grounds, Washington.
The check will be presented at a kick-off press conference at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, in Room HVC 201 in the Capitol Visitor Center. A patient’s family will be on hand to receive the check, along with representatives from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Children’s National Health System, a CMNH affiliate, will be hosting a tour for credit union officials of the hospital on Friday, April 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Congressional FCU and U.S. Senate FCU sponsor the annual Cherry Blossom Capitol Hill Competition, the race within the larger Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. House and Senate offices form teams to compete for the Capitol Hill Cup. The team with the best race time wins the cup to display in its office. Nearly 800 congressional staffers are running in what’s known as the “Runner’s Rite of Spring,” according to race organizers.
Meanwhile, in Sacramento, Calif., the 6th Annual Credit Union SacTown Run will take place Sunday, April 3, starting at 7:00 a.m. at the State Capitol here. More than 1,500 participants are expected at the event which features a 10-mile race, the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Miracle Mile fun run and fitness walk, and a 5K race (new this year).
The 2016 Run—hosted by the Sacramento Racing Association—serves as the Pacific Association 10-Mile Championship.
The check will be presented at the press conference on Friday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the UC Davis Children’s Hospital in Sacramento, followed by a CMN Kids Medal Ceremony at 10:35 a.m., and tour of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at 10:45 a.m.
Since becoming the title sponsors of races in 2002, Credit Union Miracle Day, a collaboration of over 100 credit unions and business partners and CUSOs, said it has donated over $7.5 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country, under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is an alliance of premier children’s hospitals which treat 10 million critically ill children annually, regardless of their ability to pay.
Credit Union Miracle Day’s Family of Races also includes a Freedom Run at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait on April 3, sponsored by the Defense Credit Union Council, and at Wiesbaden Army Garrison in Germany on April 16, sponsored by Andrews FCU.
