CU-Sponsored Races In DC, California, Europe This Weekend

WASHINGTON–The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is set for the weekend in the capital here, as are separate races in California and in Europe.

More than 15,000 runners are expected for the race on Sunday when it starts at 7:30 a.m. In a first, one race participant will be wearing a Go Pro camera on behalf of CUToday.info in order to more fully share the race experience with the credit union community.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, for which PSCU is the lead partner and sponsor (and which will have teams of runners), involves hundreds of volunteers from throughout D.C.-area credit unions in order to make the event a success. This year’s race has raised $505,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The race is a big event for Capitol Hill, with more than 200 U.S. Senators and Representatives serving as Honorary Race Chairs and nearly 800 Congressional staffers participating in the race. Since 2002, there has been a “bragging rights” contest within the broader Credit Union Cherry Blossom race where members of Congress and their staff compete against each other. It is sponsored by the Congressional FCU and the United States Senate FCU, with support from CUNA and NAFCU.

Other races that are part of the Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD) Family of Races also include the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run in Sacramento, Calif., at which more than 1,500 racers are expected, and two Freedom Ten Mile Races for the troops, the first on April 3 at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, which is sponsored by the Defense Credit Union Council, and the second on April 16 at Wiesbaden Army Garrison, Germany, which is sponsored by Andrews FCU.

To date more than $7.5 million has been donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as a result of the races.
