INDEPENDENCE, Mo.—For more than 18 months an office of United Consumers Credit Union has been victimized by a series of copper thefts, which have ruined several large air conditioning units and left the CU without AC—and a bill that now tops $80,000, FOX4KC.com reported.
The office at East 23rd Street has been hit three times by thieves, said UCCU CEO Jay Neathery, adding that another UCCU office has been targeted twice.
When the air conditioning units are down, the credit union staff use a series of fans to keep some areas of the building cool, FOX4KC.com said.
“We know the first two events at this location were definitely the same person. The third event looks like the same person…,” Neathery said.
No one has been arrested, according to a spokesperson for the Independence Police Department, FOX4KC.com said.
