MONROE, Mich.–At least four credit union members here have fallen victim to a scam involving their debit cards.
According to the City of Monroe Police Department, members of Monroe County Community Credit Union have received calls from a man who claims to be a financial aid advisor who says he can rapidly get them a student loan. The man then obtains a debit card number and PIN from the victim, saying the information is needed to deposit the loan proceeds into their account. The scammer then deposits a bogus check into the account before removing all of the money himself.
