CUNA Expresses Concerns Over USPS Move Into Financial Services

WASHINGTON—CUNA has sent a letter to Congress stating its concern for the United States Postal Services providing financial services to Americans.

The letter, from CUNA president Jim Nussle to leaders of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, details how credit unions are well positioned to serve the underserved, and do so daily. Nussle added that while more can be done to help the underbanked, the trade association is “skeptical” that the USPS is the right way to reach them.

The letter was sent in advance of Thursday’s hearing by the committee, which included discussions about the Postal Service’s entry into financial services. CUNA’s complete letter can be found in CUToday.info’s The Gov.
