CUs Honoring Veterans Today

HARRISONBURG, Va.—The country will be celebrating Veterans Day today, and many credit unions have provided financial support to various related organizations.

Among them is Park View FCU here, which said it will be seeking to support its philosophy of “Neighbors Serving Neighbors” today by hosting a Community Connection service day.  PVFCU said its employees, along with employees from some member businesses will be serving together around the community at the following locations: Gift & Thrift, Our Community Place, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic, Highland Retreat, Family Life Resource Center, Eastern Mennonite School, First Step, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, Tried and True, Community Preschool, and Patchwork Pantry.

This is the second year that PVFCU employees have served the community on Veteran’s Day, but the first year it has opened up the invitation to employees of other local businesses who utilize the services of PVFCU for their banking needs.

In Arlington, Va., NAFCU reflected on the work and sacrifice of the nation’s veterans.

“We thank the nation’s veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice, and we honor the work being continued by current servicemembers to protect our nation and preserve its freedoms,” said President and CEO Dan Berger in a release. “In addition, we wish to reiterate our appreciation of the credit unions that work daily to ensure these individuals receive the financial services and products they need to meet life’s challenges.”

The trade association stated it supports H.R. 5061, a bill introduced by House Veterans Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller, R-Fla., that would exempt loans to veterans from the member business lending cap.
