CHICAGO—Credit unions across the country will be celebrating International Credit Union Day today in a variety of ways.
Credit unions in 33 states are participating in Shop for Miracles, a one-day Credit Unions for Kids program raising funds for local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Each time members use their credit union-issued credit or debit card today, the participating CU will donate $0.25 or other pre-determined amounts to the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital.
Other International Credit Union Day activities:
- In Lihue, Kauai, Kauai Government Employees FCU has been hosting local police and fire representatives to lead programs, has hosted a bake sale to benefit the United Way, and is hosting a luncheon today from 11-1. All Kauai CUs are also participating in a food drive for a local food bank.
- In Iowa, R.I.A. Credit Union is providing assistance to the River Bend Foodbank for local service and Jason's Box for global good. For every new member during the month of October R.I.A. will donate two items of food to the River Bend Foodbank. For every 50 new members R.I.A. will then donate a box of goodies with Jason's Box to be sent overseas to troops.
- In Newburgh, Ind., Heritage FCU tomorrow will serve members coffee, granola bars, cookies, hot dogs, chips, and water, and will be offering free ice-scrapers and free paper shredding at all of its seven branches.
- In Illinois, the Decatur Chapter of Credit Unions spent $200 to help cover the costs of meals for diners at Krekel’s North.
