CUs Meet to Plan ‘Leave-Behind’ Project Tied To Democratic National Convention

PHILADELPHIA–Credit union leaders from a five-county area surrounding this city met here as part of a site visit and other events to mark the Health & Wellness Garden that will be built by credit unions in honor of the 2016 Democratic National Convention to be held here.

The so-called “leave-behind” project is being built at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Karabots Pediatric Care Center. The group was welcomed by Louise Lingenfelser, chairman of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.

According to the PCUA, the CHOP Garden has been proposed as a way to positively impact West Philadelphia by providing a beautiful outdoor space for patients and helping to increase knowledge of good nutrition.

“Whereas other organizations and industries travel to the convention host cities and throw big parties the week of the convention, credit unions ‘leave behind’ a tangible project that will impact the local community long after the balloons have dropped and the visitors have left,” the PCUA said.

The CHOP Campaign is being co-chaired by PCUA CEO Patrick Conway and Bruce Foulke, CEO of American Heritage FCU.

The Democratic National Convention will take place July 25-28, 2016.
