Candidate Strongly Backed By CUNA Loses Race

WASHINGTON–The one Super Tuesday race in which CUNA said it was watching most closely and was most invested did not go credit unions’ way. Tim Derickson, who received $250,000 in Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) funds via independent expenditures, finished third in the Republican primary for Ohio’s 8th District. That seat was previously held by Rep. John Boehner, the former Speaker of the House. Derickson finished third is the Republican primary, which was won by small business owner Warren Davidson.

“We have put a lot of effort into this race,” said CUNA’s Chief Political Officer, Richard Gose, had said earlier in the week.

CUNA’s Trey Hawkins added, “We engaged in this specific race because Tim Derickson is a proven friend of credit unions, based on his record in the state legislature.”
