Collins Recognized For Half-Century Of Volunteer Service

HOUSTON—Curtis C. Collins, vice chairman of JSC FCU here, was recognized by the credit union for his 50 years of service as a volunteer.

Collins joined the credit union in the way many did when he was asked by his boss to do so, as the CU was having trouble finding committee members.

According to the Cornerstone CU League, Collins served first on the credit committee and then the board. He said his role changed with an NCUA policy modification that allowed credit union staff to approve or disapprove loans, as opposed to requiring a committee.

"As in all industries," Collins told the CCUL, "the biggest change has been technology and communications. No longer can you only consider the local environment; but you must consider worldwide issues and activities in the financial systems."

Collins was quoted by the Cornerstone league as saying he had remained in the credit union movement for so long because he always had a passion for small credit unions and the volunteer role. "I love the basic CU philosophy of people helping people," he said. "The chance to make a difference is significant to me."

In a statement issued in presentation with an award for Collins, JSC Federal Credit Union said, "Our dedicated JSC Federal Credit Union board members share a common goal for the success of our credit union," the statement reads. "With compassion and determination, our board members put in many volunteer hours focusing on the well-being of the credit union. We are honored to have Mr. Collins on our board of directors, and we look forward to his ongoing support.”
