OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.–During the Cornerstone CU League’s annual meeting here, CEO Dick Ensweiler called for the implementation of a credit union “wellness checkup program.”
According to the CCUL, 2015 was a good year for the association’s members, but some are performing better than others.
"Many credit unions are doing very well," Ensweiler said, "and others could use a helping hand in finding solutions to ensure all credit unions succeed."
He also noted that it's an interesting time to be engaged in determining the future of the movement, and listed some strategies for next year. According to the CCUL, those strategies could include:
- Enhance engagement with all credit unions to ensure credit unions are engaged in all that Cornerstone offers. "When we show up, we win," he said.
- Create a payments council to understand and enhance the payments system model.
- Emphasis on credit union culture and history in leadership onboarding. He said, "Onboarding from the director level to the staff level is going to be very important to move us forward."
- Comprehensive position analysis for credit union CEOs, with a focus on a community, outward-focused and involved CEOs.
- Augment political engagement to allow a bigger, stronger presence in the political arena.
- Protect and improve the political climate for credit unions.
- Grow awareness and the reach of media and community relations.
- Provide permanent ongoing support for outreach programming like Juntos Avanzamos.
"We are a big, strong league with the capacity to do more," Ensweiler said, according to the Cornerstone league, which first reported the comments. "Credit unions have this great support system for everybody. Together, we are stronger. Let’s move forward together with purpose and passion in this great profession."
