SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas has opened an office in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The new location is an expansion of the Bismarck, N.D., office and marks a return to Sioux Falls after the South Dakota Credit Union League merged with the North Dakota League in 2007 and relocated to Bismarck. The new office is located in the Sioux Falls Federal Credit Union Administrative Building on Cleveland Ave., and will house the association’s chief advocacy and compliance resources.
“Re-establishing a physical presence in Sioux Falls has been a priority for the Association since 2010 when we changed our name from Mid-America Credit Union Association to the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas,” said Jeff Olson, president-CEO of CUAD. “As regulations continue to have an influence on the consolidation of credit unions, the amount of credit union activity in terms of members and assets is growing at a healthy rate in the state, especially in and around the Sioux Falls area. With a jump in membership of nearly 9% in the last five years, the Sioux Falls area is definitely a place where we want to continue our focus of creating credit union awareness and promoting the credit union alternative to consumers in the state,” added Olson.
South and North Dakota both formed credit union associations in 1937, and maintained separate trade association in each state until the two organizations merged in 2007 under the name “Mid-America Credit Union Association” (MACUA). At the time of the merger, the ten-member board elected to keep the association headquarters in Bismarck at the North Dakota League building and to sell the South Dakota location. Following a name change in 2010, MACUA became the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD).
