Credit Union-Backed Adelita Grijalva Wins Arizona Special Election

WASHINGTON--Credit union-supported Adelita Grijalva (D) won the special election in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District Tuesday, America's Credit Unions reported.

Grijalva fills the seat left open by the death of her father, Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D) and will serve the remaining 15 months of his term.

Adelita Grijalva was supported by the America’s Credit Unions PAC, the GoWest Credit Union Association, and Arizona credit unions in the race for this Congressional seat. She is a credit union member who supports the industry’s work in underserved communities and served on the Pima County board from 2021 until she resigned this year to run for Congress.

The GoWest CU Association congratulated Grijalva.

"Adelita has demonstrated a long-time commitment to serving her community, honoring the legacy of dedication and advocacy established by her father while standing firmly on her own two feet as a leader in her own right. Her deep understanding of the district’s needs and her proven leadership make her the right person to continue that important work. As a strong credit union advocate, GoWest was honored to support her successful campaign, and we look forward to the work and opportunities ahead," said Ryan Fitzgerald, SVP of advocacy for GoWest.
