CHICAGO–Credit unions are on hand as the Democratic National Convention gets underway.
“We are excited to engage with policymakers, just as we did at the (Republican National Convention),” said Carrie Hunt, chief advocacy officer with America’s Credit Unions, who will be on hand in Chicago. “We want to get the pulse of how races are going, Typically, of course, we focus on congressional races, but certainly how the presidential election is trending has an impact on those, as well. We are active in certain primaries and in fulfilling our mission to make sure that we are supporting individuals who support credit unions.”
‘Fun to Watch’
Hunt said it’s been “fun to watch this election cycle.”
She said America’s Credit Unions is also paying attention to the trends in political fundraising, which have spiked since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee for president.
“Of course, America's Credit Unions is a bipartisan organization. We have credit union members who are both lean Republican and Democrat and certainly we look to foster that support on both sides,” Hunt said.
She added where the trade group spends its PAC funds is a “race by race decision.
Watching the Fed
In addition, Hunt said America’s Credit Unions is monitoring any news that comes out of the Federal’s Reserve annual August retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and how it views some of the recent economic indicators that show cooling inflation.
