RANTOUL, Ill. — A Rantoul man faces up to 20 years in prison after his conviction in federal court for robbing a branch of Community Plus Federal Credit Union earlier this year, the News-Gazette reported.
Trey Burke, 40, is scheduled for sentencing on May 2 at the U.S. courthouse in Urbana.
Burke also faces up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. A federal jury returned a guilty verdict against Burke following a two-day trial, the News-Gazette said.
The government presented evidence that on June 30, Burke walked into Community Plus Federal Credit Union in Rantoul and indicated to a teller that he had a gun. He then removed a plastic partition that separated the teller from the customer and threatened to hit her with it.
Burke left the credit union with more than $9,000 in cash. The teller had also placed a GPS device in the stack of currency, the News-Gazette said.
Rantoul police stopped Burke a few blocks from the credit union. He was found to be in possession of more than $9,000 cash and the GPS device.
