Crooks Fail To Tow Away ATM

Source: CBC News

MONTREAL—Thieves attempted to rip an ATM out of a credit union in Montreal night by tying a cable around the machine and pulling it with a pickup truck. The effort failed when the ATM lodged in the doorway, tipped forward and then fell on its front side, blocking the door to the cash vault. According to published reports, unable to lift the ATM, the thieves left the scene.

Police are investigating the attempted robbery that occurred in Montreal’s Pointe-aux-Trembles neighborhood at the Caisse Populaire Desjardins on Notre-Dame Street East around 10:40 p.m. The CU branch was being renovated.

Police believe the robbery attempt may be linked to a car fire that was deliberately set nearby. Investigators believe the suspects started that fire as a diversion.
