Crowded Tarmac: Another International Airline Rolls Out Card

NEW YORK—In a crowded market and in the wake of other major international airlines like Avianca and Qatar that have recently launched credit cards targeting U.S. consumers, Virgin Airlines is now rolling out its own plastic.

Red is the latest to enter this market,

The Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard will open for applications in the fall of 2024.

The Virgin Red loyalty program, which includes Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Hotels and Virgin Voyages, has teamed up with Synchrony to issue its perk-laden, $99 annual fee card, Forbes reported.

Earning Status

“It can help you earn status on Virgin Atlantic, enjoy a third night free once per year at Virgin Hotels and even get a few hundred to spend at the bar on a Virgin Voyages cruise,” Forbes said in its review of the card.

The card also offers 2,500 Virgin Points per authorized user, up to a maximum of four users. And it comes with an anniversary bonus of up to 5,000 Virgin Points each year upon card renewal, Forbes said.

Earning Points

“For every $2,500 you spend on your card, you will earn 25 Flying Club Tier Points (up to 50 Tier Points per month), which gives you a path to elite status with Virgin Atlantic. You’ll need 400 Tier Points to qualify for the Silver Tier,” Forbes said.
