DOVER, Del.—The Delaware League has named as its Professional of the Year, a person it says lives by the adage “It is better to give than to receive.”
A 33-year veteran of their credit union, and the “first to volunteer for any special projects and always willing to stay late or come in early to help resolve a problem,” Sherry Shockley of Sussex County FCU has been named as the League’s Outstanding Professional of 2014.
“Our nominee is a major team player, and an integral part of our management team. Our nominee has consistently supported the CEO, helping to reshape the credit union culture, implement new technologies, and implement and manage a successful ALM program,” said the nomination letter for Shockley. “Our nominee manages a $122-million investment portfolio while consistently achieving yields far in excess of peer averages, and also greatly contributes to the credit union’s low operating expense levels. Together, these efforts allow our credit union to offer higher dividend rates to our members while still achieving strong profit levels and building strong capital levels. Our nominee was instrumental in the successful completion of recent major computer and debit and credit card conversions at our credit union. In addition, the credit union was able to successfully implement mobile banking and remote deposit capture programs, under guidance from our nominee.”
The Delaware CU league has named Kathleen Adams as its Outstanding CU Volunteer, someone who has been a credit union member for 49 years and served as a credit union volunteer for 25 years on numerous committees, including the loan review committee, the supervisory committee, and the board of directors.
“Our nominee believes strongly in working as a cohesive team, and as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, she has placed an emphasis on this. Under her leadership, our credit union has become more engaged with our members and the community as a whole,” read the nomination letter for Adams. “Our nominee has always been a proponent of youth and families at the credit union. She was the driving force behind creating the Kids Club and Teen accounts to get children involved and acclimated to financial literacy and independence.”
