LONG BEACH, Calif.—SchoolsFirst FCU has made a $500,000 donation to the California State University Long Beach Urban Teacher Education Academy (UTEACH).
As a result the program will be renamed as SchoolsFirst FCU UTEACH.
In addition to supporting the program over the next five years, the gift will also be used to provide five $5,000 scholarships each year as well as $1,000-$2,000 stipends for all program participants.
“Supporting education and professional development is more important than ever; educators build the future, and we believe the work they do is incredibly noble and important in helping to form the next generation of leaders. We are honored to support a program that helps prepare teachers for the future,” said Bill Cheney, president and CEO of SchoolsFirst FCU.
Saying it takes its inspiration from the medical profession’s postgraduate training model, SchoolsFirst FCU UTEACH offers yearlong in-depth, on-site teaching residencies that provide direct experiences in local urban schools in the Long Beach Unified School District.
The gift is part of the $225-million Declare Campaign for California State University, Long Beach.
