Embezzlement Being Investigated At WV CU

WHEELING, W.Va.—An embezzlement is reportedly being investigated at the $5.7-milion Ohio County Public Schools FCU here.

The West Virginia CU League confirmed for the Wheeling Intelligencer that the investigation was taking place, and that attorney Bill Wilmoth of the Steptoe & Johnson law firm has been hired to conduct an investigation.

The amount of funds suspected as missing and the person believed to be responsible have not been released by the credit union. But Wilmoth told the Wheeling Intelligencer that an assistant manager uncovered discrepancies in the CU’s operating checking account and alerted the board, which in turn contacted the state league.

OCPSFCU issued a statement that all accounts are fully insured and that there are no risks to members.
