ALBANY, N.Y. — First New York FCU has named Vik Muktavaram as its next president and chief executive officer, succeeding Lucy Halstead, who is retiring following a planned transition, the credit union announced.
Muktavaram becomes the ninth CEO in First New York’s 88-year history. He joins the more than $500 million-asset credit union from Sunmark Credit Union, based in Latham, N.Y., where he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer. He joined Sunmark in 2022 as chief risk officer and was named interim CFO in 2024.
“Vik’s range of experience and commitment to the credit union movement stood out during our search process,” said Brian Krawiecki, chair of First New York’s board of directors. “First New York has a great team, and we are excited to bring Vik on board as their new leader.”
Before joining Sunmark, Muktavaram was a principal at Satori Consulting, a New York City-based management consulting firm. Earlier in his career, he served as chief risk officer for Old Mutual Bermuda and spent more than a decade in management consulting roles.
