TALLAHASSEE, Fla./BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Florida Credit Union Association and the Alabama CU Association handed out their 2014 Lawmaker of the Year awards in their respective states.

In the Sunshine State, Florida House Speaker Steve Crisafulli received the honor, while in Alabama, House Majority Whip Randy Davis captured the award.

Both associations are affiliates of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates, and recognized the legislators during each association’s State Governmental Affairs Conferences.

“We recognize Speaker Crisafulli as our 2014 Lawmaker of the Year and thank him for his support of the Florida Credit Union Association,” said Patrick La Pine, LSCU president and CEO. “Speaker Crisafulli recognizes the importance of credit unions and has been a longtime friend to the industry. His dedication and leadership in the Florida House of Representatives is much appreciated by all of our members, as well as credit union customers across the state.”

Turning to Alabama, La Pine said, “Rep. Davis is a long-time credit union member and supporter of the Alabama Credit Union Association. He is sponsoring the credit union public deposits bill (HR 454). He also voted in favor of the update to the state credit union act in 2014, plus he supports more credit union initiatives, such as right of redemption and data security. We thank him for his dedication to ensuring credit unions can serve their members.”
