LYNCHBURG, Va.–Claudia Rawes, former manager of Centra Health Credit Union, has pled guilty to federal charges of embezzlement.
Rawes, 61, had earlier waived her rights and entered the guilty plea to an “informational” count that Rawes committed theft and embezzlement from a federal credit union. Authorities said Rawes wrote checks using the Centra Health CU corporate accounts to make payments on her own credit cards, eventually embezzling more than $1 million.
Rawes worked at CHCU from 1990-2014. Sentencing is set for July 7. Rawes faces up to 30 years in prison plus an order to pay up to $1 million in restitution.
