Former Manager Allegedly Pleads to Five-Year Scheme To Steal Funds

EVANSVILLE, Ind.–A former manager at Diamond Valley FCU here has been arrested after admitting to stealing more than $70,000 from the CU.

Carolyn R. Wintz, 60, was arrested following an investigation into Wintz that started on June 15, and formal charges were filed on Monday, according to court documents reported by the Courier Press. Police reported that Wintz turned herself in and made an initial court appearance later that day. She has since been released from the Vanderburgh County jail after posting bond. Wintz faces charges of fraud on a financial institution and theft, both of which are level 5 felonies in Indiana, the Courier Press reported.

According to a June 16 Evansville Police Department report, Wintz admitted to her boss that she took more than $70,000 from the branch. The Courier Press reported that Wintz later reportedly told police that she took the money over the last five years. The probable cause affidavit does not disclose what Wintz allegedly spent the money on, but investigators said she told them that the money is all gone and that she used it on herself and her family.
