TOPEKA, Kans.—Karolyn Stattelman, former manager of Jayhawk FCU, was sentenced in U.S. District Court here on embezzlement charges. Stattelman was sentenced to supervised release for three years and ordered to pay more than $173,600 in restitution.
Stattelman pleaded guilty to one count of theft from Jayhawk FCU, which was based in Lawrence, Kan. The tiny $1.5-million CU was merged with Mid America CU, Wichita, Kans., earlier this year. Prosecutors say Stattelman manipulated accounts to conceal the thefts. Co-defendant Christi Hout, a former teller at Jayhawk, will be sentence in January.
