TOPEKA, Kan.--Four states will hold their primary elections today – Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington.
America’s Credit Unions is supporting three candidates in Kansas, 12 candidates in Michigan, five candidates in Missouri, and seven candidates in Washington. In Hawaii’s primary on Saturday, Aug. 10, an additional three credit union-supported candidates are in the running.
Kansas
In Kansas, America’s Credit Unions and the Cornerstone League are supporting former Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt (R) in the open seat to replace outgoing member Rep. Jake LaTurner (R).
Michigan
In Michigan, the Michigan Credit Union League and America’s Credit Unions are supporting Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) in her Senate run to fill the seat currently held by Debbie Stabenow (D), who decided not to seek re-election.
Credit union-backed candidates have a success rate over 98% so far in the 2024 cycle.
Tennessee
In last week’s Tennessee primary, all candidates backed by America’s Credit Unions and the Tennessee Credit Union League won,.
In particular, Rep. Andy Ogles (R) beat a challenge from City Councilwoman Courtney Johnston with 56% of the vote, America’s Credit Unions reported.
“Our state primary had extremely low turnout, which affected multiple races,” TCUL’s Chief Advocacy Officer Sarah Waters said in a statement. “However, on the federal level we were pleased to see all our supported candidates come out ahead. We now turn our focus to working with those candidates in the general election.”
