EAST KNOXVILLE, Tenn.–A group of credit unions picked up the tab for groceries for about 20 people at a store here.
Over about a 20-minute span CU representatives paid for groceries for shoppers at the Food City store at a total cost of about $2,000. Twenty-six credit unions pitched in to support the project.
"We're doing this to pay forward to our community," Katy Jett, vice president of marketing with Enrichment Federal Credit Union, told local media.
The credit unions have staged similar promotions in the past, including paying for gas for random customers at a gas station in November 2015.
During the grocery store event, CU volunteers all wore green t-shirts reading, “Join the Credit Union.”
