WASHINGTON—CUNA Chief Economist Bill Hampel has been promoted to chief policy officer.
While continuing in his current role, Hampel will also advise new CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle and Chief of Staff Rich Meade on key strategic initiatives, according to the trade group. Hampel served as interim president/CEO following the departure of former CEO Bill Cheney and prior to the hiring of Nussle in September. Hampel has been with CUNA since 1978.
"Every day I am impressed with the depth of knowledge and perspective Bill brings to the many opportunities and challenges we face," Nussle said in a released statement. "His wise counsel has been a great value to me in my first weeks here at CUNA, and I look forward our work together in the years ahead. I am grateful that Bill has accepted this new challenge as chief policy officer, in addition to maintaining his valued role as chief economist."
