Hawaiian CU Alerts Members To Potential Data Breach

KAMUELA, Hawaii–Certain member accounts, including personally identifiable information, may have been hacked at Hawaii First FCU here.

In a letter sent to members the credit union said that an “unauthorized person may have gained access to an employee’s e-mail account.” In response, HFFCU said it immediately terminated access to the e-mail, reset all passwords, and immediately launched an investigation.

Hawaii First said member account numbers and Social Security numbers may be involved.

In the letter, signed by CEO Laura Aguirre, said it is offering members free identity theft protection through Experian’s ProtextMyID Alert solution. It said it is also conducting a “comprehensive review” of its information security practices.
