He’s Toast: Man Sets ATM on Fire To Cover Crime

SPRINGFIELD, Ore.—A man faces arson charges after setting a CU ATM on fire in an effort to cover up false deposits, Springfield Police said.
Thirty-three-year-old Jeremy Kenneth Shorter is also accused of criminal mischief and theft by deception after allegedly burning an ATM outside the office of the $902-million Northwest Community Credit Union at 3660 Gateway Street., just after 5 a.m.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but called police after suspecting the fire was started on purpose. Security cameras helped police and bank security identify a suspect.
Police worked with credit union security on the investigation and identified Shorter as a suspect.
