WASHINGTON–America’s Credit Unions said it has been reviewing the economic plan that was recently released by Vice President Kamala Harris, who has become the presumptive nominee by the Democrats in the presidential race.
“We have looked at it,” said Hunt, “I think for us the question is whether and to what extent she continues the Biden administration’s focus on junk fees. Certainly, we support consumers…(but) we want to make sure that credit unions don't get pulled into some of those issues as they have under the Biden administration.”
As for the new Democratic vice-presidential nominee, Gov. Timothy Walz (D-MN), Hunt said Minnesota’s credit unions have had some “positive interaction” with the candidate, but most of the credit union advocacy has been with the state’s congressional delegation.
“We expect for there to be a positive relationship going forward, but it remains to be seen how he is going to engage specifically on credit union issues.”
