How Did CUNA Board Vote On Task Force Recommendations? Not Known, Says CUNA

Bill Hampel, CUNA

WASHINGTON–CUNA will not be releasing last week’s board vote tally that went against two-of-the-three recommendations made to it by its System Structure and Governance Task Force.

Chief Policy Officer Bill Hampel, acknowledging there was “lots of debate” around the task force’s recommendations, said there were numerous yes/no votes around numerous questions and resolutions. “We don’t know the board vote tally,” he said during a call with the media.

Hampel also said costs related to the task force had not been specifically identified, as CUNA’s annual budget already includes funds for task forces and committees. There were extra costs for the task force, he said, due to some of the extra research and other work it commissioned, but he did not have specific figures available for that.

Coming out of that board meeting an ad hoc committee has been created to deal with some technical issues related to governance, including whether one group of directors should be elected in districts or at large, as well as whether a nominating committee might work to put forward director candidates for the CUNA board. At present, director candidates either nominate themselves or another credit union nominates them.
