In Wake of Wildfire, AltaOne FCU Activates Emergency Assistance Program

RIDGECREST, Calif.–In response to the Borel Wildfire, AltaOne FCU said it has activated its Emergency Assistance Program to provide help to those in the Kern River Valley area of Kern County., Calif.

The fire, which ignited on July 24, has burned nearly 60,000 acres and affected the communities of Havilah, Bodfish and Lake Isabella.

According to the $845-million AltaOne, its Emergency Assistance Program is designed to help those who live or work in the affected areas in two ways:

  • Bridge Loans up to $5,000, at reduced rates, with no payments for 90 days for affected individuals. The Bridge Loan can be used for temporary housing, small repairs, insurance deductibles, and other needs.
  • For affected AltaOne members with existing loans, the credit union is streamlining the payment deferment process and offering late fee assistance.

"In response to the Borel Wildfire, we have activated our Emergency Assistance Program to support affected members and communities. We are committed to providing immediate financial assistance and standing with those in need during this difficult time,” CEO Stephanie Sievers said in a statement.
