Kamiah Introduces New Name To Go With New FOM

KAMIAH, Idaho–Kamiah Community Credit Union said it is changing its name as it also expands its field of membership.

The credit union will now be known as Freedom Northwest Credit Union. It is also moving to an associational field of membership and has partnered with the Kamiah Chamber of Commerce as a new source of member eligibility.

With the FOM expansion approved by regulators, “the credit union is no longer forced by law to turn away people from Lewiston, Orofino, Weippe, Moscow, Pullman (Idaho), etc.,” the new Freedom Northwest said in a statement to members. “Once someone qualifies for membership, by making a one-time contribution to the local Chamber of $20, they can remain a credit union member forever,” the credit union said.

The CU told members there is one “catch” with an associational FOM: it has had to drop “Community” from its name, even though it is open to two counties.
