Kansas, Missouri Associations Plan Merger

WICHITA, Kan./ST. LOUIS--The Kansas Credit Union Association and the Missouri Credit Union Association have announced plans to merge.

In a statement issued by the KCUA, it said, “The new association is a combination of two innovative and professional organizations that have successfully worked together for a number of years. They hold similar values, vision and philosophies with an emphasis on service to their members. The collective experience of the management, staff, volunteers and members of the two organizations will result in a stronger force representing credit unions, both locally and nationally, and allow for an improved and enhanced service offering to members.”

The two state associations said a joint task force from both states has been meeting over the past three months to “identify opportunities for collaboration and explore service options. Over the next few months, they will work to solidify a business plan to present to membership for approval.”

Don Cohenour is president and CEO of the Missouri CU Association; Marla Marsh is CEO of the Kansas CU Association, which has 86 affiliated member CUs.

The league merger is part of a trend of consolidations among state associations serving credit unions, including California/Nevada, Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas, North Carolina/South Carolina, Florida/Alabama, North Dakota/South Dakota, and Arizona/Colorado/Wyoming. The Massachusetts/Rhode Island/New Hampshire leagues, which had been operating under a joint management agreement, also recently announced plans to formerly merge under the name the Cooperative Credit Union Association.
