Klarna Rolls Out Open ‘Agentic Product Protocol’ To Power AI-Driven Commerce

COLUMBUS, Ohio— Klarna has launched a new open standard aimed at making merchant products more visible and usable by artificial intelligence agents, as competition accelerates around “agentic commerce,” PYMNTS reported.

The global digital bank and payments provider this week released its Agentic Product Protocol, an open specification and API now available to developers, AI platforms and merchants. The protocol delivers a live, structured feed covering about 100 million products and 400 million prices across 12 markets, providing a standardized foundation that allows AI agents to find, compare and recommend products across merchants and platforms, according to Klarna.

For merchants, the API is designed to make products discoverable to any AI agent that supports the protocol, while also accommodating existing feed formats such as Google Merchant, Shopify, Facebook Catalog and CSV/JSON, Klarna said.

“Before agents can buy, they need to know what exists,” Klarna Chief Commercial Officer David Sykes said. “Klarna’s Agentic Product Protocol defines a common language for how AI systems, merchants and platforms exchange product data, a foundational layer for the next generation of agentic commerce.”

PYMNTS noted that the move builds on Klarna’s broader push into AI-driven payments. In October, the company expanded its partnership with Google to support the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), an open standard intended to enable secure, AI-enabled transactions.
