WASHINGTON—As expected, the new Administration moved quickly Monday following the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States to name Kyle Hauptman chairman of the NCUA board.
Hauptman, formerly the agency’s vice chair, replaces Todd Harper, who held the chairmanship for the last four years.
Hauptman joins Harper, who has stated he plans to complete his term on the board, and Board Member Tanya Otsuka. Hauptman is the lone Republican on the board.
Former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar commented on Hauptman’s new role.
“The designation of Kyle Hauptman as NCUA Chairman on the first day of the Trump administration is a sign that the Trump team is much more intentional and organized than his last term and that Kyle Hauptman has the credibility to be recognized as the new chairman on day one,” said the Dollar Associates principal partner. “There is going to be a new focus on the regulatory agencies in this administration, and there will be an expectation of less regulatory activism and overreach. It will be interesting to watch.”
