WACO, Texas—A serial bank robber who had once been dubbed by the FBI as the “Lone Ranger Bandit” and whose targets included credit unions, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. Richard Swicegood, 38, was sentenced to the term after pleading guilty to 13 bank robberies in Texas and Arkansas. Authorities reported that overall Swicegood stole more than $133,000.
U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr. also ordered Swicegood to pay $119,815 in restitution to the banks. Among the credit unions robbed by Swicegood were Temple Santa Fe Community CU, Select FCU, Altra FCU and FedStar CU.
